Sue asks whether Deb is free on Saturday. Deb has been hoping for an invitation, but opens her diary as though she has several competing plans. She even turns a page before saying she would love to go. Sue is pleased, they meet for coffee, and a ridiculous story told in several voices gives them plenty to laugh about. Later, recounting the call to Rosie, Deb admits she had not wanted Sue to think she had nobody else. Rosie asks how Deb would hear a simple yes from her friend. Looking back, Deb can see the invitation for what it was: Sue wanted her company. The diary had room for coffee and cake.
The catch-up gives Deb room to say why a welcome invitation felt awkward. Rosie asks what Deb would think if Sue simply said yes to her, helping her look differently at the worry she had felt. If you fancy talking through an ordinary moment of your own, Rosie's free demo is a place to start with hello.

Deb: I checked my diary. There was nothing in it.
Rosie: Looking for a hidden appointment?
Deb: Sue asked if I was free Saturday. I'd hoped someone would. So naturally I pretended to be in demand.
Deb: I said, 'Let me just check.' A whole blank weekend, staring back. I even turned a page.
Rosie: A thorough investigation.
Deb: I didn't want her thinking I had nobody else. She'd asked me for coffee, and I was auditioning to look busy.
Rosie: Would you think that if she said she was free?
Deb: No. I'd be pleased. I'd stop trying to read her mind.
Rosie: What did you say next?
Deb: 'Actually, I'm free. I'd love to.' She said, 'Good. I was hoping you'd say yes.'
Rosie: And Saturday?
Deb: We went for coffee. She told me a ridiculous story about her sister. It needed all the voices. She did all the voices.
Rosie: Did it make it into the diary?
Deb: Coffee with Sue. One real plan. No imaginary dentist. Much better cake.
Rosie: Like and subscribe if you've ever tried to look busy when you wanted company.
