Before a gathering, Deb wonders whether anybody else will talk to her while Sue is busy hosting. The message is meant for her sister, but goes to Sue. Before Deb can invent an explanation, Sue admits that she is nervous too and has just cleaned the fridge. At the door later, their fridge joke gives them something to laugh about. Deb joins the gathering, shares crisps and talks about ordinary things. She tells Rosie afterwards about the worry she had expected everyone to notice and the evening that actually happened. Her sister eventually gets the story, if not the original text.
Telling Rosie about the evening, Deb can laugh about the message she had wanted to explain away. Sue's own nerves gave the two friends something familiar to share before the gathering even began. If there is something you would like to talk about, you can try a free chat with Rosie.

Deb: I texted, 'What if nobody else talks to me?' To the woman hosting.
Deb: Meant for my sister. Sue replied, 'I'm nervous too. I've just cleaned the fridge.'
Rosie: Were the guests being stored in there?
Deb: That's what I asked. She sent a laughing face. I'd been about to claim it was meant for someone else's party.
Rosie: An entire spare party. Very organised.
Deb: Sue would be busy hosting. I worried I'd be hovering by the crisps, looking like someone she felt obliged to invite.
Rosie: But she'd told you something awkward too.
Deb: Yes. At the door she said, 'Fridge inspection?' I said, 'Only if that's where you're keeping the drinks.'
Rosie: Did you spend the night explaining that message?
Deb: No. We ate crisps and talked rubbish. Mostly, people noticed we'd run out of cheese ones.
Rosie: And your sister?
Deb: Got the story afterwards. 'Lovely,' she said. 'Next time, try sending me the text.'
